Coffee: Friend or Foe?

Caffeine is an alkaloid found naturally in such foods as beans, leaves. It is more commonly consumed in coffee, teas, sodas, energy drinks, guarana, chocolate, as well as some over the counter and prescription medications! It can also be called trimethylxanthine, coffeine, theine, mateine, guaranine, and methyltheobromine, so read your ingredients carfully.

Caffeine is a drug that stimulates the central nervous system, and is a diuretic.

Possible mental & physiological effects of drinking coffee:

- caffeine is considered an addictive drug
- insomnia
- tremors
- nervousness/ restlessness
- headaches
- increased urinary calcium losses
- elevation of blood pressure
- irregular heartbeats and palpitations
- increased risk of cardiac arrhythmia and heart attack
- increased gastric acid production & aggravation of peptic ulcers
- increased heartburn
- increased symptoms of PMS
- higher risk of birth of a low-weight child
- regular use can lead to dependency

Kicking the caffeine habit is never easy, the best way is to cut back slowly. Most important substitute is H2O! Start by drinking a cup of water for every cup of coffee. This will re-hydrate your body, your need and wants for coffee will decrease, and thirst for water will increase. The more water you drink, the less water you’ll retain!!!

So if you’re tired of the caffeine rollercoaster, and want to feel energized all day without the need of a drug, try this helpful tip, and let me know how it works!…….

  1. I guess you could say that coffee could help you lose weight since it is a 0-cal drink and it has caffeine which helps suppress your appetite…

I don’t drink coffee because it tastes bad.

Thank you for your post! Good to hear you don’t drink coffee as well. Water is also a 0 calorie drink that doesn’t have all the stimulating effects listed above. There are allot of other drugs that can suppress your appetite as well, but most of those are also things that I wouldn’t recommend for people to use for weight loss.
