Respiratory Exchange Ratio (RER) is the difference between the O ² we breath in and the CO ² we breath out. The RER basically tell us what % fat and % carbs we are burning sitting around or running on the treadmill. We all know that the harder we work the more sugars or carbs we use. The interesting thing that we have found is that after a moderate to high intensity weights workout, our RER changes to a higher ratio of fat burning, no matter what activity you are doing. (that’s why beefcake Bob doesn’t do much cardio and isn’t a blimp) We can use his RER change to our advantage by doing cardio after our weights workout to blast away that fat even faster
*this approach should be integrated into a well rounded exercise routine and not used as the only time you do cardio.
