Gym Etiquette
Some times the gym can be a uncomfortable place to workout. Usually, when people are don’t use common sense on what is acceptable and unacceptable in public areas. Here are few unwritten rules that will make you feel at home during your workouts.
Make some noise. It’s perfectly acceptable to grunt or groan while you are working out. It is natural to make some sound while you are pushing yourself but some people overdue it just to get attention which can annoy other members. So keep it at a reasonable volume and no one will think anything of it.
Share. If you’re doing multiple sets on a machine, it’s common courtesy to let others work in during your rest periods. This may not always be practical, but offer to share whenever you can.
Clean up After Yourself. My biggest pet peeve is when someone who walks away from a machine, leaving a slimy pool of sweat behind. Thanks! Always bring a towel with you and wipe the machines down when you’re finished. Most gyms offer wipes or sprays strategically located around the gym for this purpose.
Weights. Are you done with them? Then put them away! Sometimes the racks are full and disorganized so you can’t place your weights in their proper spot, but you can at least place them somewhere on the rack or on the floor in front of where they should go.
Turn Off your Phone. You should be concentrating on what you are doing in the gym. Talking on your cell phone will distract you from your workout and may annoy others around you.
