Kalev Personal Trainer – Alex Jack – running and stretching

Hi!
My name is Alex and I am the newest member of the Kalev Personal Training Team. I just moved to Vancouver from Toronto and am pleasantly surprised to see how many people here are physically active. In Toronto I was a full-time personal trainer at a club called Goodlife Fitness. Once I decided it was time to move on and make a change of scenery I took a vacation to Athens, Greece for a month and flew from there into Vancouver. It is really great to see so many people jogging, biking and playing sports around the Vancouver area, it has really surprised me. I am staying in Kitsilano and enjoy running down to the beach as often as I can and know that there are a good amount of people that do the same. Since I have been here, 4 weeks, there has been the Sun Run, The Earth Run, and the BMO Marathon. I ran in the Earth run which was 5km and found it very enjoyable. I came in with a time of 19:40 and was happy to make it under 20 minutes which was my goal. One of the things I did pre-race that I found made me more successful was wake up about 2.5 hours before the run and ate a hearty bowl of oatmeal to get some complex carbs in my body. I found that it did help and I never ran out of gas and even had enough to do a few more km’s at my pace. Another thing I did during the race was find a pace maker, someone going at a good pace to run behind and pass in the last km. Next up, a 10km race! I am also enjoying playing a variety of sports since I’ve been here, tennis, football, frisbee, and even California kickball. I am considering running a free stretching club which would take place at Kitsilano beach and would be a 30 minute stretch around 3 times a week so look for that in the future. For now I am enjoying the nice weather, the new surroundings and meeting new people. Cheers
