Train With Purpose!

See full size imageBeing clear about your desired outcome is always the first step with any success we seek. You have to know where you’re going in order to get there. Having a well defined fitness goal gives us motivation. Any fitness plan is useless if we lack the drive to follow through.

Goals should be evaluated and modified regularly (at least every 3 months) to track your progress and fine tune your fitness routine. Fitness assessments can be used to clearly identify your points of progression, points of regression, or areas you may have plateaued in. From there you can decide what areas of your program need to be modified, and what goals need to be reassessed.

Write your goals down, keep them as specific as possible, and state them in the positive. Instead of “get stronger” or “lose weight”, set an actual measurable amount for your strength training and work towards it, or say “be lean and healthy”.

Whatever your fitness level and the stage of your training, envisioning your outcome is critical to staying motivated. Take some time to design measurable goals and review them at least every 3 months after each fitness assessment. Commit your goal to paper in positive terms, and place them somewhere that you will be reminded every day.
