Weight Loss Plateaus, your vancouver personal training tip

Vancouver Personal Training tip, Weight Loss Plateaus.

The plateau is a dieter’s bane and even the best of us can end up at a stage in our weight loss where it seems like nothing works anymore. Even if you have been losing weight for sometime, it is incredibly discouraging to reach that point where you suddenly stop losing weight. This forces many to cut calories even further, but instead of losing weight, they may actually gain instead. This seems counter intuitive but the body is a complex machine and the reason for your weight loss plateau can come from multiple sources.

Losing weight means your body is losing its ability to burn calories. Lets say you weight 200 pounds and your body burns 2500 calories/day, but if you drop down to 175 lbs and body may be burning only 2000cal/day. So what can you do to kick start the weight loss? Well either you can increase your activity levels, build more muscle or eat less. Increasing activity levels is simple run/lift/do more and you will burn more calories. Usually you will have to put your weight loss goals aside for a month or two if you wish to gain muscle but this will greatly add to your long term ability to lose weight. Eating less is usually the easiest option but not always the most most effective.

Being consistently motivated and willing to try new things will lead you back on track with your weight loss goals. Whatever route you choose to follow, always avoid yo-yoing weight fluctuations and fad diets due to potential health side effects.
