How to Start Meditating Every Day

Meditation is growing increasingly popular as time goes on. It’s becoming widespread amongst most healthy lifestyle plans and routines. It has been practiced for centuries in the East and is now becoming a substantial part of Western culture too.  Since the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s people have been interested in meditation for spiritual and non-spiritual reasons.

Science is backing meditational practices, such as mindfulness, and showing that it does promote positive mental health and stress relief. Since this scientific data came about, masses of both spiritual and non-spiritual people have taken up meditation in their daily routines and are seeing the benefits that the data has proven.

After meditating properly just once, you will begin to reap the rewards that it offers; however, to take advantage of it fully, you should meditate at least once per day. Making meditation a part of your daily routine helps promote a healthy and balanced mind.

Introducing Meditation into Your Daily Routine

To meditate each day, you’ll want to condition your daily activities to include meditation into your routine. It can be difficult to maintain your daily meditation sessions, as they require focus, concentration and determination. You’ll find that it requires the same kind of effort as dieting or exercising does. Nobody else can do it for you.

Most people like to meditate in the morning to start their day, as it helps them cleanse their minds and head out into the world with a sense of positivity. Quite often the way you start your day ends up setting your attitude and perception on situations, which can be either good or bad. Since meditation allows you to set out on the “good” foot, it makes sense to use it.

Set a daily reminder on your phone or use a meditation app to help you maintain and manage your sessions. There are so many useful meditation apps that even include guided meditation for you beginners.

Consistency Is The Key To Success

To gain the most benefit from meditation, you’ll want to do it at least once per day. Twenty to twenty-five minute sessions are proven to be very effective in calming down the brain’s activity. Over time you’ll notice that your focus and concentration abilities have significantly increased, and you’re able to sit or lay down quietly without being distracted by almost anything.

Meditational practices, such as mindfulness or transcendental meditation, state that meditating for at least 20 minutes in the morning and then again at night can be very beneficial. However, it’s important to note that any practice is better than none. If you find yourself with only five or ten minutes to spare in a day, it’s healthier to use them for meditation than to state you don’t have enough time.

The important factor is that doing something each and every day over time forms habits, and you can create a habit out of meditating. Once something becomes a habit, it’s part of your mental conditioning, which makes it a lot harder to break. Meditating every day becomes easy at this point.

Different Types of Meditation

There are many different meditation techniques and methods. Some address philosophy, others focus and stress relief and some tackle everything simultaneously.

Depending on your goals, you’ll want to decide upon a method which resonates with your ambitions and health targets. The most popular types of meditation include:

  • Mindfulness
  • Mantras
  • Kundalini yoga
  • Zazen
  • Qi Gong
  • Guided Visualization
  • Transcendental Meditation
  • Heart Rhythm Meditation

Mindfulness, transcendental meditation, heart rhythm meditation and some guided visualizations aren’t focused on spirituality. Although some people do reframe them and use them for religious purposes, especially since transcendental meditation emerged from a spiritual background.

Enjoy Meditating

One of the key elements to success with meditation is to enjoy it. If you try too hard to empty your mind or put a lot of energy into the practice itself, you’re doing it wrong. Meditation is about letting go and relaxing, accepting things as they are and focusing on healing.

Thoughts will come and go uncontrollably since our minds love to take up most of our attention, but let them pass by without encouraging them. It takes time to get used to meditating, but as your focus and concentration skills grow, you’ll enjoy the process a lot more.

You’ll have sessions that make you feel on top of the world and others which don’t seem to do much at all. But that’s one of the fundamental parts of meditation, allowing things to take their natural course. If you need assistance or wish to learn meditation properly, attend a beginner’s class and get direct answers to any questions or desires you have on the subject.
