Kettle Bells: Are they worth it?

How effective are kettle bell workouts?

From the Globe and Mail: June 10, 2012

We’ve seen them in the gym, trainer’s include them in sessions and they look so cute with their sleek appearance and handle. It’s the kettle bell and it’s quickly becoming a common workout tool. But how effective are these little round balls? The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research recently published studies that tested the fitness gains in strength, power and aerobic fitness using kettle bells. The results proved in favour of using kettle bells but noted that strength and cardio gains were greater using the traditional training methods of lifting weights and running, respectively. The verdict? Regardless of the equipment and method used, fitness gains will be specific to the type of training and intensity. It’s not what you use that matters most but how you use it.
