Ladies, Wanna look good and feel even better? Get off the treadmill and start lifting weights!

For me personally, nothing feels better than gaining strength as I progress in fitness. As a trainer,  I’ve seen my philosophies around weight lifting benefit my clients immensely.  My own personal journey started out with a powerlifting program.  Later on I started including elements of bodybuilding as well.  Now I find that powerbuilding is my favorite way to train because I enjoy increasing my muscle mass and I also love continually setting the bar higher on my big three (squat, bench press, deadlift).

Many women fear lifting weights and as a result there is a lot of steady-state cardio going on without  lot of improvement.  I use the word improvement in conjunction with lifting because it’s a style of training in which you can make all sorts of gains.  For example, increased strength, development of lean muscle mass, improved bone density, a better metabolic state and overall confidence are great benefits of lifting.  Unfortunately there is a lot of misguided information out there stating that lifting weights will make women look big and manly which is where a lot of the fear of lifting has come from.  There are various forms of bobybuilders and some women do train to put on a lot of mass.  These types of training programs require a lot of time, dedication and food.  The average woman is not training for this level of bodybuilding and therefore would not obtain those types of results.

I’m excited to be involved in the Women and Weights training program because I want other females to experience the wonderful things that come with lifting.  In this training program we will begin with proper warm up strategies to develop mobility and ensure functional movement patterns.  Compound lifts will be the focus of this program, along with some calisthenics (pull ups) and some examples of good accessory exercises.  I will also discuss the nutritional philosophy of flexible eating that I have adopted as we go as well.

Always remember that strong women lift each other up, so this will also be a great opportunity to show each other encouragement and support as we learn new skills and make new friends.  Looking forward to seeing you there!
